Taylor Swift salio como la gran ganadora de la noche. Consiguio 9 premios: Vídeo del Año, Canción del Año y Mejor Pop, Mejor Dirección, Mejor Cinematografía y Mejores Efectos Visuales, todellos por “Anti-Hero”, Álbum del Año por Midnights, además de Artista del Año y Espectáculo del Verano.
Se convirtió en la primera artista en ganar Vídeo del
Año dos años seguidos, y amplió a cuatro su récord de victorias en esa categoría, tras ganar anteriormente por “Bad Blood”, “You Need to Calm Down” y “All Too Well: El cortometraje”.
El primer premio de la noche para Swift fue entregado por los miembros reunidos de NSYNC, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone y Chris Kirkpatrick. “Vosotros sois el pop personificado, así que recibir esto de vuestras doradas manos pop es realmente, es demasiado”, dijo a los miembros de la boy band.
Wyclef Jean entregó a Shakira el premio Video Vanguard, Shakira interpretó un deslumbrante popurrí de algunos de sus mayores éxitos, como “Hips Don’t Lie”, “She Wolf” y “TQG”.
Sean “Diddy” Combs también interpretó un impresionante popurrí de algunas de sus canciones más atemporales, como “I’ll Be Missing You”, “It’s All About the Benjamins” y “Bad Boy for Life”, antes de que Mary J. Blige le entregara el Premio Icono Global.
